History: The 10-18 1961 Northwestern Wildcats baseball team may not have lived up to the winning ways of prior years (1957 in particular when the Cats won the Big Ten outright and were stopped just short of a trip to the College World Series), but they sure looked good trying! History: Promoter Abe Saperstein wanted a traveling baseball club to complement his famous basketball team. He first formed the West Coast Baseball Association, a fledgling Negro League on the West Coast that disbanded after only a couple months. Upon the league's death, Saperstein repurposed it into a single team under the Globetrotters name, barnstorming the country for the next few years.
